pros

sharp! bonus: not many 8'th gen model civics floating around madison. 8 year warranty through any honda dealership.
last tank yielded about 36 mpg.
line-in auxillary port for iphone jamming.
curves are fun to take.
rubber floor mats are, indeed, clutch.
mp3 cd support for 4 hours of tracks on one compact disc.
cup holders can fit any cup you throw at it.

cons

the trim level i went with has hub cabs. while they look fairly decent now (and even better at night when you can't see the steel) those gosta get replaced sooner rather than later.
gas is expensive.
8 air bags means it will probably total itself in any major collision.

i'm scattered a bit too much currently. too many "open" projects needing little bits and pieces. waiting on client approvals, input, photographs, decisions... i'm assembling a plan to seal a few of the sites within the next week so i can start focusing on the major tasks ahead.

couple design, ui & web observations going through my mind:

lists. people love knowing where they are and accomplishing things is fun. it's nice to cross something off a list, so some visual feedback letting someone know they've completed something lifts the burden and inspires completedness.... mm, yeah.

indicators. spinning graphics or other cues that indicating something is loading, chugging, or processing keeps users interested in what's going on, and let's them know we've got their request and are doing something about it.

scanning, forever scanning. i do it, you do it, we all do it. make hooks in the shape of an F and allow those eyes to latch onto something... something visual or rich in copy.

content will forever remain key. if you don't have the info they will get it somewhere else.

sometimes you just can't make crunching numbers fun {although number munchers did a damn fine job at it}.

not everyone sits on the computer as much as me, so jesus christ design something so dead simple that it makes a stoned monkey look like mensa founder.

i'm developing a slight case of add.

landed my biggest web site {in cost & scope, naturally} yesterday...

went on a design spree immediately afterwards. i'm in overdrive...

updates & configurations

busy busy busy. networking, meeting new people and landing more clients. working with the local cable broadcast channel, a new local restaurant endeavor, re-branding microdome, starting more start-up web sites {more on this when i really have a handle on rails} & finalizing things with the madison visitor's center which will include lots of video shooting & editing.

i built a poorman's steadicam in anticipation. it works very well.

i spent some time making sqeez look closer to what i had originally intended. i fought with javascript based "rounded corner" solutions for weeks... well, dabbling mostly... and had issue after issue of getting it to work 100%. right now we're using mozilla & safaris rounded code which works surprisingly well. rounded corners are a specific part of css3 standard, but it'll be some time before all browsers render them properly.

i am personally happy with the design changes, but to be honest, i've got no feedback on it.

tonight i'm going to give the food industry another spin. maverick's is preparing for one of their busiest days since their opening, so they've recruited me to help assist in serving. i've never worked in a formal restaurant, and i've always half-way been interested in being a server...

it may just be the first & last day... i don't have good memories of the food service industry, but i need to remember i'm going into it for the experience and to help out. definitely not for the money.

i'm feeling hip hop today, yo.
